Rocket Ranger came out in 1988 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Cinemaware. It was one of those ambitious titles from the late 80s that tried to blend several genres into one cohesive experience, something not many developers attempted on the platform at the time.

You control a soldier equipped with a rocket pack, tasked with stopping an alien invasion by traveling across a world map to locate and destroy enemy bases. The gameplay shifts between strategic resource management, where you gather materials to build new weapons, and action sequences like side-scrolling shootouts and aerial dogfights against enemy ships. You have to carefully monitor your fuel levels during flight; running out means crashing and failing your mission. The pacing is deliberate, often tense, as you balance exploration with the constant pressure of the alien threat advancing. It feels like a race against time where every decision carries weight.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
