Pick Sub-Zero, freeze someone mid-air, then shatter them—your friends will groan as blood splatters those crunchy MS-DOS pixels. That spear fatality still lives in my head rent-free.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat II on MS-DOS was my first real taste of fighting games as a kid, and man, it ruined me for anything less brutal. You boot it up, pick your fighter (I always went with Sub-Zero because freezing people never got old), and immediately get thrown into this grimy Outworld arena where everyone’s trying to rip your spine out. The pixelated blood looked ridiculous even back then, but the fatalities? Pure magic. Friends would crowd around the keyboard just to see Scorpion yank someone’s head off with his spear.

What made MK2 special wasn’t just the violence—though let’s be honest, that was a big part—but how it fleshed out the weird lore. Suddenly you had Kitana and Mileena with their twin-blade nonsense, Kung Lao’s ridiculous hat slices, and Shao Kahn looming over everything like a guy who skipped leg day. The controls were janky on PC, but we made it work. You’d mash keys until someone’s uppercut sent the other guy flying, then argue about whether the "Toasty!" guy was hilarious or nightmare fuel.

It’s clunky now, but back then, this was the game that made parents lose their minds and arcades smell like sweat and quarters. Still holds up if you’re into nostalgia with a side of disembowelment.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
