Game Overview

Mortal Kombat on the Amiga is exactly what you’d expect—brutal, fast, and packed with that signature over-the-top violence (unless you played the toned-down Nintendo version, which honestly feels wrong). You pick your fighter—Scorpion’s spear move is still my go-to—and jump into one-on-one battles where every punch, kick, and uppercut feels satisfyingly heavy.

Shang Tsung’s running the show again, and to beat him, you’ll have to fight through every other warrior first, including the monstrous Kintaro and Shao Kahn, who’s just unfair if you don’t know his patterns. Each character has their own ridiculous special moves—Sub-Zero freezing people mid-air, Raiden teleporting behind you—and figuring them out is half the fun. The two-player mode is where it really shines, especially when you both pick the same fighter and turn it into a mirror match.

It’s not the prettiest port, but the blood (and those fatalities) make up for it. Just don’t expect mercy from the higher difficulty levels.
