SD Sengokuden 3 came out on the Game Boy in 1991, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of late 80s, early 90s portable games that tried to pack a full console style experience into a tiny cartridge, often based on popular anime or toy lines. This one draws from the SD Gundam Sengokuden spin off series, reimagining giant robots as cute feudal warlords.
You control a small squad of these chibi generals, moving them across grid based maps in a turn based system. Your main goal is to defeat all enemy units or capture their base in each scenario. Combat uses a simple but effective rock paper scissors mechanic where sword beats axe, axe beats lance, and lance beats sword. Positioning and unit facing matter a lot; attacking an enemy from the side or rear deals significantly more damage. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly if you rush in. It feels like a compact, thoughtful war game that rewards patience over brute force.
