Shadow the Hedgehog is that weird, angsty cousin of Sonic games where everything's darker, guns exist for some reason, and Shadow won't stop talking about Chaos Emeralds like they owe him money. Instead of just running fast, you're blasting through military bases, hijacking alien hovercrafts, and making choices that actually change how the story plays out—like whether to help Eggman or tell him to get lost.
The first time I played, I accidentally shot an innocent G.U.N. soldier within five minutes and immediately questioned my life choices. The controls take some getting used to (why does a hedgehog need firearms?), but once you lean into the chaos, there's something weirdly satisfying about grinding rails while dual-wielding pistols. Also, the soundtrack slaps—half industrial metal, half Sonic-style bangers.
It's janky, over-the-top, and absolutely soaked in early 2000s "coolness," but that's why it's still fun to revisit. Just don't take it too seriously—Shadow certainly doesn't.
