I picked up Shaman King: Legacy of the Spirits: Soaring Hawk back in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, a Konami release that came out right when the handheld was full of anime tie-ins. It was based on the Shaman King series, which was pretty popular at the time, so it fit right in with that era of trying to capture a show's feel in a portable adventure.

You control Yoh Asakura, a laid-back shaman training to become the Shaman King. The main goal is to explore the world, befriend spirits, and battle other shamans. You move screen by screen through towns and dungeons, talking to people and triggering fights. The signature mechanics involve collecting spirits, which act like your party, and fusing them together during combat to create new, more powerful allies. Some combinations feel a bit random until you stumble on a fusion that really works. The pacing is steady, though some boss fights can spike in difficulty if you haven't built up your spirit roster enough. It feels like managing a team of unpredictable partners, where a little experimentation can suddenly turn the tide of a tough fight.
