Play Shinobi III Online
Slice through waves of enemies with fluid sword swings, then hop on horseback mid-level as ninjas dive at you—somehow this chaos just clicks.

Shinobi III came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that era where action games were really pushing what the hardware could do, focusing on fast movement and sharp controls rather than just big sprites or long cutscenes. The series was already known for its ninja action, but this one felt like a step up in terms of speed and level design.
You control the ninja Joe Musashi, moving through stages that mix side-scrolling combat with occasional forward-scrolling sections. Your main goal is to stop a revived terrorist organization, which means fighting through soldiers, cyborgs, and other ninjas. You have a sword for close attacks and shurikens for ranged shots, plus special ninjutsu magic that can clear the screen. The pacing is relentless; you're constantly running, jumping over gaps, deflecting projectiles, and using wall jumps to navigate. It's challenging but fair, and pulling off a perfect run through a stage without getting hit feels incredibly satisfying. The game controls so smoothly that even when things get chaotic, you always feel in command.
