Play SSX Tricky (U)(Mode7) Online
Throwing wild Uber Tricks on chunky pixel slopes—somehow nailing a perfect combo on the GBA feels even more satisfying than it should.

SSX Tricky on the Game Boy Advance came out in 2002, published by EA Sports Big. It was part of that wave of console-to-handheld ports that tried to capture the feel of a bigger game on a smaller screen. The GBA was full of ambitious attempts like this, and Tricky was definitely one of the more memorable efforts to bring a full 3D sports game to the platform.
You control a snowboarder from a behind-the-back perspective, racing down mountains or competing in trick events. The main goal is to win races and score huge points by performing tricks off jumps and rails. Key mechanics include building up a trick meter by linking moves together; filling it completely activates "Tricky Mode," which lets you pull off even bigger, more exaggerated stunts. You also have to manage your boarder's balance to avoid wiping out on landings. The pacing is fast, and the isometric 3D can make judging jumps tricky at first. It feels surprisingly fluid once you get the hang of it, a real pocket-sized rush of air and speed.
