Control Commander Sisko, explore Deep Space Nine, solve puzzles, interact with characters, and prevent an assassination plot while using your tricorder and phaser.
Deep Space Nine: Crossroads of Time came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Novotrade and published by Playmates Interactive. It was one of the few Star Trek games on the platform, arriving late in the console's life when players expected more from 16-bit graphics and design. The game tried to capture the look and feel of the TV series, with digitized sprites and familiar settings from the show.
You control Commander Sisko, moving screen by screen through the station and other locations, interacting with characters and objects to advance the story. The main goal is to prevent an assassination plot and protect Bajoran interests, which involves using a tricorder to scan items, solving environmental puzzles, and occasionally engaging in combat with a phaser set to stun. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking and dialogue choices influencing events; the difficulty comes from obscure triggers and timing-based challenges. It feels like navigating a clunky but earnest episode of the show, where patience and attention to detail are more important than action.
