Star X came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Graphic State. It was part of that wave of shooters that really made use of the GBA's hardware, offering fast action and detailed sprites without pushing the system too hard. The game fit right in with other space shooters of the time, but it had its own look and pace.
You pilot a small, nimble ship through vertically scrolling stages filled with enemy craft, asteroids, and environmental hazards. Your main goal is to survive each stage, defeat the boss waiting at the end, and move on to the next. Key mechanics include collecting weapon power-ups that change your shot pattern, managing a limited shield system that recharges slowly, and dodging dense enemy formations that require precise movement. The game moves quickly and the difficulty is consistent; mistakes are punished, but checkpoints keep things fair. It feels tense and responsive, especially when you slip through a tight gap in the bullets.
