Stardust takes the classic Asteroids formula and cranks it up with way more variety than you'd expect. You start off blasting the usual space rocks—gray ones crumble fast, while those stubborn yellow chunks take serious firepower—but soon you're dodging enemy ships and occasionally teaming up with friendly forces who drop wild new weapons. I got hooked on the plasma gun early, though the flamer’s short-range chaos has its charm.

The levels are split into five worlds, and you can tackle them in any order until you hit the sixth one—that’s when a brutal guardian ship shows up to wreck your day. Between the standard stages, there are these insane tunnel levels where you’re weaving through a 3D corridor with rays shooting everywhere, plus a couple of bonus rounds that play like Thrust if you need a break from the chaos. Dying there actually costs you a life, so no half-hearted attempts.

What really keeps it interesting is the weapon system. You’re constantly swapping between six types, each with their own upgrades, and you can power them up independently. Nothing beats the satisfaction of maxing out the burster and watching it tear through a swarm of enemies. Just don’t get too comfortable—those end-of-world bosses don’t mess around.
