Starflight II on the Amiga is one of those games that makes you feel like a real space captain—if space captains spent half their time sweating over fuel calculations and dodging pirates. You start with a rickety ship and a vague mission to explore the Cloud Nebula, trading goods between planets to scrape together credits for upgrades.
The first time I played, I blew all my money on fancy lasers instead of extra cargo space. Big mistake. Turns out, hauling alien fruit between backwater colonies is way more profitable than picking fights with random space critters. The galaxy feels huge, with weird planets to land on and cryptic alien dialogues that actually matter. Just don’t forget to save often—running out of fuel mid-jump is embarrassingly common.
It’s clunky in that classic ‘80s way, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about finally affording a better warp drive after three hours of grinding trade routes.
