Play Summer Challenge Online
Compete in eight summer sports events, like kayaking and archery, aiming for high scores while mastering tricky controls and timing in this classic Sega Genesis title.

Summer Challenge came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, published by Epyx. It was part of that wave of early 90s sports compilations that tried to capture the feel of multi-event competitions, a familiar concept from titles like Track & Field but with a distinctly summer camp vibe. It didn't aim for simulation; it was pure, simple fun built for quick sessions.
You control an athlete competing across eight different events, from kayaking and archery to hurdles and the pole vault. The main objective is to earn the highest total score by performing well in each discipline. Signature mechanics include timing your button presses for the javelin throw's power meter, navigating a kayak through a twisting river by fighting against a strong current, and carefully aiming a wobbly bow for the archery target. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty is unforgiving, especially when mastering the precise timing needed for the pole vault. It feels like a game where every event is a new struggle against slightly awkward controls that you eventually learn to love.
