Super Kick Off came out on the Game Boy in 1991 from Anco Software. It was one of those portable soccer games you'd see people hunched over, a small green-lit screen in their hands, trying to get a match in between classes or on a long car ride. It fit right in with the era's push for taking bigger console experiences and shrinking them down, trading detailed graphics for something you could play anywhere.

You control all the players on your team, passing the ball between them and aiming shots on goal. The main objective is to win matches in either a single game or a full tournament. Key mechanics include a through-pass system to send a teammate on a run and a sliding tackle to dispossess opponents. The game moves at a brisk pace, and the difficulty comes from the tight controls and the AI's aggressive defense. It feels like a genuine test of your timing and spatial awareness on a very small field.
