Super Robot Taisen A is the kind of game that makes you wish your GBA had a bigger screen—just so you could properly take in all the ridiculous, over-the-top robot battles. You start off picking your squad from a wild mix of mechs, and yeah, of course I went straight for the Gundams first. Big mistake. Turns out Mazinger Z’s drill punch wrecks shop early on.
The grid-based fights feel surprisingly tactical once you get past all the laser beams and explosions. Positioning actually matters, and you’ll catch yourself agonizing over whether to upgrade your favorite robot’s mobility or just slap on more armor. The attack animations are pure 90s anime chaos—expect a lot of yelling and swords the size of buildings.
If you’ve ever wanted to pit classic mecha against each other without digging through a dozen different shows, this is basically the ultimate playground. Just don’t blame me when you start muttering "Rocket Punch!" under your breath in public.
