Game Overview

Switchblade on the Amiga is one of those games that looks simple at first—just another platformer—but there’s something weirdly satisfying about it. You play as Hiro, some kind of chosen warrior trying to put together a broken sacred sword (because of course some villain smashed it into 16 pieces). The levels are a mix of indoor and outdoor areas, and the map slowly fills in as you explore, which makes stumbling into hidden rooms or bonus weapons feel like a real discovery.

What’s interesting is how you get stronger—no shops or coins here. Instead, you hold down the fire button to charge up attacks, which gives fights this tense, almost tactical feel. The first few minutes are rough since you start with nothing, but once you grab a weapon or two, it clicks. The sequel changed things up, but this one’s got its own scrappy charm.

Also, the music? Absolute banger. Just saying.
