Play Taiyou no Yuusha Online

You swing a sword that actually feels heavy, uncovering hidden switches in dungeons while the pixel art glows like late afternoon sun. It’s Zelda but small enough to cram in your pocket.

Game Overview

Taiyou no Yuusha (or "Hero of the Sun" if you prefer) is one of those Game Boy games that makes you wonder how it slipped under the radar. You play as this kid who—shocker—has to save the world, but the way it all unfolds feels fresh even now. The pixel art pops with these warm, sun-soaked colors, and the swordplay has this nice weight to it—none of that floaty, unsatisfying slashing.

At first, it seems like a straightforward action RPG, but then you start poking around and realize dungeons hide way more secrets than you’d expect. I remember getting stuck in one early area because I missed a hidden switch behind some unassuming bush. Combat’s simple but tight, and the story actually has some charm instead of just going through the motions. If you’ve ever wished for a pocket-sized Zelda with its own personality, this might just hit the spot.

It’s not perfect—some of the enemy patterns feel a little cheap after a while—but for a Game Boy hidden gem, it holds up surprisingly well.
