Technocop came out for the Sega Genesis in 1990, published by Sega. It was part of that early wave of action games trying to push the hardware with gritty, urban themes. You play as a heavily armed police officer in a futuristic city overrun by criminals.
You control the officer from a behind-the-back perspective, moving screen by screen through the dangerous streets. Your main objective is to shoot every enemy you encounter while occasionally rescuing hostages. Signature mechanics include aiming your weapon vertically to hit enemies at different heights and driving a patrol car in between the on-foot shooting sections. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with limited continues and aggressive enemies. It feels chaotic and rough, but there's a raw energy to blasting through each screen.
