Man, The Revenge of Shinobi is such a solid follow-up to the original. You're back as Joe Musashi, but this time it's personal—those Neo Zeed goons killed your master and kidnapped your bride. No hostages to rescue this round, just pure ninja vengeance.
Gameplay's straightforward but satisfying: you toss kunai at everything that moves while hunting for the level exit. Break boxes for power-ups (though some explode—rude), and if you're lucky, your knives turn into fire and you get this sweet ninja sword. The levels get wild fast—you start in classic ninja territory with forests and attack dogs, then suddenly you're dodging traffic on a highway or fighting ballet-dancing enemies on neon rooftops. Oh, and you ride trains by clinging to the roof like a proper shadow warrior.
Boss fights used to feature bootleg versions of Godzilla and Batman before Sega had to swap them out. Even with the replacements, they’re still a blast to fight. The whole thing just feels like a proper ninja power fantasy. You’ll probably die a lot, but that’s part of the charm.
