Play Tinhead Online
You play as a little metal dude who shoots bouncy orbs from his head, trying to nail floating eyeballs and weird space creatures while hunting keys in maze-like space stations. The controls feel just janky enough to make every jump and ricochet shot satisfying when you pull it off.
Tinhead is this weirdly charming platformer on the Genesis where you play as a little metal guy trying to save the stars from an intergalactic goblin named Grim Squidge (yes, really). The first thing you'll notice is how strange Tinhead's attack is—he shoots these little bouncing orbs out of his head, and you've got to angle them just right to hit enemies above or below you. Took me a few tries to stop accidentally launching them straight into the ground.
The levels are these sprawling, slightly maze-like space stations where you're hunting for keys and hidden power-ups while dodging floating eyeballs and other bizarre enemies. It's got that classic '90s platformer feel where everything's just a little janky in the best way—like how Tinhead's jump has this weird floatiness to it that makes precision landings a gamble. Once you get the hang of the orb mechanics though, there's something satisfying about ricocheting shots off walls to take out enemies just out of reach.
Also, the soundtrack slaps—all these bouncy, metallic synth tracks that sound like someone fed a Genesis through a washing machine. If you're into obscure retro platformers with personality, this one's a trip.
