Play Tinhead Online
You play as a little metal dude who shoots bouncy orbs from his head, trying to nail floating eyeballs and weird space creatures while hunting keys in maze-like space stations. The controls feel just janky enough to make every jump and ricochet shot satisfying when you pull it off.
Tinhead came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Reflections Interactive and published by Accolade. It was one of those platformers that felt a little different from the usual fare, with a sci-fi theme and a main character made of metal parts. The game didn't get a ton of attention at the time, but it had a distinct look and some clever ideas that set it apart from the Sonic and Mario clones.
You control Tinhead, a robot who fires bouncing projectiles from his head to defeat enemies and collect bolts scattered across each level. The main goal is to explore large, multi-path stages, find keys to unlock doors, and eventually reach the exit. Two mechanics define the experience: you can swap Tinhead's arms and legs for different abilities (like a propeller for hovering or spring shoes for higher jumps), and your shots ricochet off surfaces, demanding careful aim. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like in places, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. Playing it feels like solving a physical riddle with every jump and shot.
