Tokyo Xtreme Racer Advance came out in 2005 for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Genki. It was part of a wave of racing games trying to capture the feel of late night street racing on a handheld, a niche but interesting corner of the GBA library.
You control a custom car, driving through a condensed version of Tokyo's highways at night. The main goal is to find and challenge rival racers, engaging in one-on-one duels where the first to pull ahead by a set distance wins. Between races, you earn money to upgrade your car's engine, tires, and other parts. The pacing is deliberate; you cruise to find opponents, then push hard in tense, high speed battles. It feels focused and tense, like a pocket sized version of its console siblings.
