Tear through city streets and open tracks in GT cars that actually feel fast on the GBA—tweak your setup between races, then white-knuckle it through rain-soaked slides when the weather turns.
Top Gear GT Championship is one of those GBA racers that actually feels fast—like, properly fast. You’ve got a mix of real-world GT cars (well, as real as the GBA could handle) and tracks that range from tight city circuits to wide-open speedways. The first thing you’ll notice is how smooth the racing feels, even with the camera glued behind your car.
Quick Race is where I spent most of my time—either blasting through time trials or setting up custom races against the AI. The tuning options are surprisingly deep for a handheld game; tweaking gear ratios or adjusting aerodynamics actually makes a difference when you’re fighting for tenths of a second. And yeah, rain races are a nightmare (in a good way) because your car just slides everywhere.
Championship mode is more structured, forcing you to qualify and climb the ranks race by race. The AI isn’t pushy, but they’ll nudge you off the track if you leave an opening. Oh, and you could even download ghost data or check rankings back in the day—kinda wild for a GBA title.
It’s not perfect (the music loops way too soon), but it’s one of the better portable racing sims from that era. Just don’t expect Gran Turismo levels of detail.
