Touhou Puppet Play (1.8 Enhanced v1.11: Renko) is one of those weirdly addictive fan games that somehow makes Gensokyo feel like a Pokémon region. You start off picking a puppet—basically a chibi-fied Touhou character—and suddenly you're grinding battles against wild fairies in the Forest of Magic. It's got that classic GBA RPG vibe, but with way more danmaku references than you'd expect.
The Renko update adds her as a playable character, which is fun if you're into the whole Sealing Club lore. The puppet evolutions are clever too—some of them actually make sense, like Cirno turning into an ice queen, while others are just delightfully random. The battles are surprisingly deep once you get into type matchups and skills, though I still have no idea why some puppets learn fire spells when they clearly shouldn't.
If you've ever wanted to build a team of Marisa clones or watch Reimu throw talismans in turn-based combat, this is your chance. Just be warned: it's way more polished than most fan games, which makes it dangerously easy to lose an afternoon to.
