Twilight’s Ransom is one of those rare text adventures that actually makes you care about the characters. You play as Ron, a regular guy who just wants to take his girlfriend Maria out for a nice evening—until he walks into her trashed apartment and realizes she’s been kidnapped. The kidnappers leave a vague threat about "the goods," and suddenly you're scrambling through Liberty City’s streets, digging through Maria’s past for clues.

What I love is how the game balances noir tension with little human moments—like flipping through Maria’s notebook and realizing she’s been hiding way more than you thought. The illustrations are sparse but moody, and the writing nails that late-80s Infocom vibe without feeling dated. By the time you’re arguing with a shady bartender at 2 AM or piecing together why Maria’s college friends seem so nervous, you’re fully hooked.

Fair warning: some puzzles are brutal in that classic adventure game way, but the story’s worth the headache. You’ll finish it in one sitting and then stare at the ceiling for a while.
