Twinkle Tale is this weird little gem on the Genesis where you play as Saria, a witch who’s basically got the worst home invasion problem ever. Her floating island’s crawling with monsters, and she’s not about to let that slide. You zip around from an overhead view, blasting everything in sight with three different spells—fire, lightning, and this weird orb thing that bounces off walls. Switching between them on the fly feels great, especially when you’ve leveled them up by grabbing stars mid-fight.
The stages are short but packed, and the bosses are these big, screen-filling jerks that take way too many hits. I always hoard the bombs for those moments when everything’s spiraling out of control (which happens more than I’d like to admit). It’s got that classic “one more try” energy, even when the enemy patterns start feeling cheap. By the end, you’ll either love it or swear off floating islands forever.
