"Slap this in your GBA and suddenly you’ve got a full deck in your pocket—poker with bots that bluff, solitaire when you’re bored, even obscure stuff like Euchre if you’re feeling fancy. The cards snap where you want ‘em, just like the old PC classics."

Game Overview

I picked up Ultimate Card Games for the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, a release from a company called Cosmigo. It was a solid little compilation for its time, a straightforward digital card table you could take anywhere, fitting right in with the GBA's library of portable time-killers.

You navigate menus to select from a dozen or so classic card games, dealing hands against AI opponents or playing solo puzzles. The main objective is simply to win each game by its standard rules, whether that's building a foundation in Klondike, forming the best hand in Five Card Draw, or taking tricks in Spades. The controls are simple, using the D-pad to highlight cards and the A button to select or play them. The pacing is what you make it; a quick round of Blackjack is over in minutes, while a thoughtful game of Gin Rummy can stretch out. It feels reliable, like having a worn deck of cards always ready in your back pocket.
