Game Overview

Uncharted Waters 2: New Horizons is one of those Sega Genesis games that just pulls you in—you start by picking a captain (I always went with the Portuguese explorer, but the pirate’s fun too) and suddenly you’re staring at a map of the entire world, wondering where to sail first. The game doesn’t hold your hand—you’ll buy spices in Lisbon, dodge storms near the Cape of Good Hope, and maybe get into a scrap with some Dutch traders if you’re feeling bold.

What’s cool is how open it feels. You can be a merchant hauling silk across the Mediterranean, a privateer hunting Spanish galleons, or just sail off to find new ports no one’s ever heard of. The trading’s surprisingly deep—prices shift based on supply, and sometimes you’ll hit a port just as some rare commodity floods the market. Just don’t forget to hire a decent navigator, or you’ll end up lost in the middle of the Atlantic with no food.

It’s got that classic ‘90s KOEI vibe—part strategy, part RPG, all adventure. The music’s great too, especially when you’re sailing at night with that soft synth melody in the background. Still holds up if you’re into slow-burn, thinky games.
