Game Overview
Venus the Flytrap came out for the Amiga in 1990, developed by Pixel Games UK and published by Gremlin Graphics. It was part of that wave of action platformers that really pushed the system's audiovisual capabilities, with detailed sprites and a solid soundtrack. The game didn't redefine the genre, but it offered a solid, polished experience that felt right at home on the platform.
You control a robotic fly tasked with cleaning up a post-apocalyptic world by shooting mutated creatures and navigating hazardous environments. The main objective is to clear each of the eight worlds, which involves screen by screen exploration, careful platforming, and constant shooting. You collect power-ups from defeated enemies, like temporary firepower boosts or speed bursts, while avoiding environmental dangers and negative pickups. The pacing is fairly relentless, with respawning enemies and precise jumps required throughout. It feels like a tense, methodical shooter where every shot and movement counts.
