Game Overview

Veteran came out for the Amiga in 1988 from Software Horizons Ltd. It was one of those early action games that tried to make the most of the hardware, offering a straightforward military shooter experience without much pretense. At the time, it fit right in with other titles that explored real time combat and direct control schemes, especially those making use of the mouse.

You control a lone soldier armed with a rifle and grenades, moving through hostile territory screen by screen. Your goal is to survive and eliminate all enemy forces, which include soldiers, tanks, and helicopters. The mouse controls are central: left click to shoot, right click to throw a grenade. Ammunition is limited, so you must collect supply drops that appear occasionally, and your health decreases each time you are hit. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be punishing if you are not careful with your resources. It feels tense and immediate, demanding quick reflexes and smart positioning to make it through each encounter.
