Game Overview

Virtual Wars was a Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Lenar and published by Imagineer. It arrived during a period when developers were still exploring how to translate complex strategy concepts onto the small, monochrome screen, and this game was one of the more ambitious attempts to fit a full-scale war into your pocket.

You control a small army of units, including tanks, infantry, and artillery, moving them across a grid-based map to eliminate all enemy forces. The main objective is to outthink your opponent by using terrain for cover, setting up ambushes, and sacrificing weaker units to protect more valuable ones. The pacing is methodical, almost chess-like, and the difficulty comes from managing your limited resources against an opponent who makes very few mistakes. It feels like conducting a precise, miniature battle where every single move carries weight.
