Play Vyper Online
1988 Amiga action game. Single-screen shooter with 100 levels. Control a ship to fight 25 alien types in waves. 1-2 player co-op. Earn extra ships every 3 levels.
Vyper came out on the Amiga in 1988 from TopDown Development, a time when the platform was full of ambitious shooters trying to push its hardware. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a solid, straightforward experience that felt right at home among its peers.
You pilot a small, nimble ship locked on a single screen, facing waves of twenty five distinct alien types that swarm in from all sides. The goal is simple: survive. You shoot everything that moves, dodge a relentless barrage of enemy fire, and try to clear each of the one hundred levels. A key mechanic is the two player cooperative mode, which lets you tackle the chaos with a friend, and you earn an extra ship for every three levels you complete, a necessary reward given the steep difficulty. The pacing is relentless; you are constantly moving, weaving through bullets, and making split second decisions. It feels like a pure test of reflexes and pattern recognition.
