Play Warsong Online
You start with a handful of knights, but soon you're hiring lizardmen and mermen—and yeah, that weird mix actually works when archers are picking off your cavalry in the woods. Watching your general cleave through enemy lines with those chunky 16-bit animations never gets old.

Warsong came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by NCS and published in North America by Treco. It was part of that early wave of strategy games on the console, a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate complex, turn based systems onto a gamepad without a keyboard.
You control a young prince named Garrett, leading a small army across a tiled map to liberate your kingdom from an invading empire. The main objective is to capture enemy castles and defeat opposing commanders in tactical, turn based battles. Key mechanics include recruiting different unit types like knights, archers, and mages, each with strengths and weaknesses based on terrain, and leveling up your commanders to improve their stats and command radius. The pacing is deliberate, requiring careful positioning and resource management, and the difficulty can be punishing if you overextend your forces. It feels like commanding a real, if pixelated, military campaign where every decision has weight.
