I picked up Wing Commander: Prophecy on the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, published by Destination Software. It was a time when handhelds were really stretching what they could do with 3D space combat, and this one tried to bring the feel of the bigger PC games into your pocket. It didn't always nail the presentation, but for a GBA cart, the ambition was clear.
You pilot a fighter craft, taking on missions against an alien threat known as the Nephilim. The main goal is to survive sorties, protect friendly capital ships, and complete objectives like bombing runs or escort duties. Key mechanics include managing your ship's energy between shields, weapons, and engines, switching between primary and secondary weapons on the fly, and communicating with your wingmen for tactical support. The pacing is intense; missions can get chaotic quickly, and the difficulty doesn't pull punches, especially in dogfights where enemies swarm from all directions. It feels like a genuine, if compact, struggle in the cockpit, where every decision matters right up until the debrief screen.
