I picked up World Reborn as a prototype cartridge for the Game Boy Advance, a version that never saw a full release. It was developed by a small team whose name doesn't appear in many credits, and playing it feels like uncovering a piece of the platform's experimental history, something raw and unpolished from that era of ambitious portable projects.

You control a lone hero tasked with restoring light to a fractured world by collecting scattered prism shards. Movement is screen by screen, with each new area gated by simple puzzles or enemy encounters. Combat is basic but deliberate; you have a short-range sword swipe and a limited magic blast, requiring you to time your attacks carefully against aggressive foes. The pacing is slow, almost methodical, as you backtrack through dimly lit environments to use new abilities on previously inaccessible obstacles. It feels like carefully testing unstable ground, never quite sure if a jump will land or a boss pattern will work as intended, but there's a genuine thrill in mapping its broken spaces.
