Game Overview

World Series Baseball came out for the Sega Genesis in 1994, developed and published by Sega. It was one of the first baseball games on the system to use the actual MLB team and player licenses, which felt like a big step up from the generic leagues in earlier titles. The game arrived at a time when sports sims were starting to feel more authentic, even on 16-bit hardware.

You control all nine players, handling pitching, batting, and fielding across a full 162-game season. The main goal is to win the World Series, but you spend most of your time managing lineups, calling pitches, and timing your swings. Signature mechanics include a unique batter’s-eye camera that zooms in on the pitcher during an at-bat, making it harder to track the ball, and a fielding system where you manually dive or jump for catches. The pace is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty is steep if you aren’t patient at the plate. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally connect for a homer after a long at-bat.
