World Tennis Stars came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2000, developed by Microids. It was a time when handheld sports games were trying to capture the feel of their console cousins, and this one took a swing at arcade style tennis.
You control a tennis player from an isometric view, moving them around the court to hit the ball. The main goal is to win matches by outscoring opponents, either in a quick exhibition or a longer tournament. Signature mechanics include the ability to charge up your shots for more power or spin, and playing on wildly themed courts that change the backdrop and sometimes the ball physics. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike against later opponents who return almost everything. It feels like a silly, frantic version of tennis where the setting is often more memorable than the score.
