Game Overview
WWE - Road to Wrestlemania X8 on the GBA is one of those rare wrestling games that actually gets it right on a handheld. The second you boot it up, you’re hit with that early 2000s WWE energy—The Rock’s eyebrow raise, Stone Cold’s middle finger, all pixel-perfect and weirdly charming. The controls are simple but surprisingly deep—took me a few matches to stop button-mashing and actually time my reversals, but when you nail a Rock Bottom out of nowhere? Chef’s kiss.
The story mode’s the real hook, though. You pick a wrestler (obviously went with Triple H first) and grind through matches with little backstage cutscenes that feel ripped straight from SmackDown. The AI isn’t just a punching bag either—they’ll counter your finishers if you spam them. Multiplayer’s where it shines, obviously. Nothing like hitting your buddy with a steel chair mid-taunt and watching their sprite flail. Graphics hold up better than you’d expect for a GBA game, especially the entrances—they somehow made Kurt Angle’s milk truck moment look good in 16-bit.
