WWF: Road to WrestleMania came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, developed by Natsume. It was one of the earlier wrestling games on the system, arriving when handhelds were just starting to show what they could really do with 3D style graphics and deeper mechanics. You could tell they were trying to capture the spectacle of the WWF in your hands, even if the hardware had its limits.
You pick a wrestler like The Rock or Stone Cold and guide them through a series of matches and backstage areas, screen by screen. The goal is to win enough fights and complete objectives to earn a spot at WrestleMania. The combat relies on timing your grapples and building up a special meter to unleash signature moves; outside the ring, you explore simple environments looking for items or hidden paths. Matches can feel a bit repetitive after a while, and some opponents demand real patience to beat, but pulling off a Stone Cold Stunner never gets old. It feels like a stripped down but sincere attempt to bring arena energy onto a small screen.
