X-Bladez: Inline Skater is one of those GBA games that somehow slipped under the radar, but man, it nails that early 2000s skate-and-destroy energy. You start off rolling through grimy cityscapes, ollieing over dumpsters and grinding fire escapes like you own them—until you inevitably eat pavement because you got too cocky with a backflip.
The controls are surprisingly fluid for a handheld game, letting you chain together grabs, spins, and grinds without feeling stiff. And that soundtrack? Pure early-aughts rebellion, all distorted guitars and basslines that make you want to kickflip off a police car. It’s not as polished as Tony Hawk, but there’s something raw about bailing mid-combo and scrambling to regain your multiplier before the timer runs out.
If you still have a GBA lying around, this one’s worth digging up—just don’t blame me when you start absentmindedly grinding every curb you walk past in real life.
