X-It is one of those puzzle games that looks simple at first—just push blocks around to make a path to the exit—but quickly gets devious. The physics feel real; you can’t just shove things willy-nilly. If there’s no space behind a block, it won’t budge, and if you push one onto ice, it’ll slide right past where you wanted it. Mess up, and you’re down a life or burning one of your five retries for the level.
What I love is how gaps change everything. Push a block into one, and suddenly you’ve got more room to maneuver—plus, you can now walk over that spot. Some screens seem impossible until you realize you’ve been ignoring a gap that could’ve saved you three moves ago. It’s the kind of game where you’ll stare at the screen for a solid minute before even touching the joystick.
Fair warning: the later levels will make you question your life choices. But in a good way.
