X-Perts is one of those weird, ambitious Genesis games that tried to do way more than your typical beat 'em up. You control Shadow Yamoto (yep, from Eternal Champions) and her crew as they infiltrate a terrorist-held underwater lab—basically Die Hard meets cyberpunk. The twist? You’re juggling three characters at once, swapping between them on the fly to hack computers, fight goons, and even torture enemies for intel (mess up the button inputs, though, and you’ll accidentally snap their necks).

What’s cool is how alive the lab feels. Leave a character mid-task to handle something else, and they’ll keep working until enemies show up—though they’re way clumsier in auto-pilot mode. The RECOM screen is your lifeline, showing hazards, mission progress, and where everyone’s scattered. And little details stick between chapters: flooded hallways stay flooded, hacked terminals stay hacked. Just don’t expect the AI to be forgiving if you leave someone alone too long.

It’s janky in that very ‘90s way, but there’s nothing else quite like it—especially with those brutal finishing moves. Shadow’s team doesn’t mess around.
