Game Overview

Xiphos_Disk1 came out for the Amiga in 1990, developed by Electronic Zoo. It was part of that wave of ambitious, exploratory games that pushed what the hardware could do, offering a big universe to get lost in without a lot of hand-holding. You just got the disk and the manual, and that was it.

You pilot a spaceship stranded in a sector run by a hostile AI. Your goal is to gather enough strength to fight your way to the core and shut it down. You explore star systems screen by screen, engage in first-person combat against drones and larger vessels, and trade mined resources at outposts to refuel and buy better weapons or shields. The pacing is deliberate; you have to manage your resources carefully or you'll end up stranded and defenseless. It feels like being a lone operator in a very cold, very large piece of space.
