Zapper came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Blitz Games and published by Infogrames. It was part of that wave of platformers that filled the GBA library, offering straightforward action without a lot of fuss. You play as a cricket named Zapper, tasked with rescuing your kidnapped siblings from the villain Magpie.
You move through levels one screen at a time, zapping enemies with electric attacks and jumping across platforms. The main goal is to gather your brothers and sisters, who are hidden throughout each stage. Two mechanics stand out: you can charge your zap for a stronger blast, and certain objects in the environment conduct electricity, allowing you to solve simple puzzles. The game moves at a brisk pace, and some later stages get surprisingly tricky with precise jumps and enemy patterns. It feels quick and responsive, with a focus on clearing rooms efficiently.
