I first came across 1200-in-1 (J) on the NES back in the early 90s. It was one of those unlicensed multicarts that seemed to pop up everywhere, especially in markets that didn't have strict distribution controls. There was no official developer or publisher listed; it was just this mysterious gray cartridge promising an absurd number of games in one. At the time, having access to so many titles felt almost too good to be true, especially for players who couldn't afford to buy individual games.

You control a variety of characters depending on which game you select, from platforming heroes to puzzle solvers. The main objective is simply to experience as many of the included mini-games as possible, many of which are short, repetitive, or clearly derivative of more popular titles. Signature mechanics include simple jumping and running in platformer segments, block matching in puzzle games, and occasionally basic shooting or driving. The pacing is frantic and disjointed, jumping from one concept to the next without much cohesion, and the difficulty can be wildly inconsistent. Playing it feels like flipping through a chaotic, low-budget TV channel where you never know what you'll get, but some moments are surprisingly fun.
