Game Overview
After Burst is one of those Game Boy games you stumble across and think, "How have I never heard of this?" It’s a Japan-only side-scroller that feels like someone crammed Contra into a tiny cartridge but forgot to tell anyone about it. The first level throws you straight into the chaos—enemies swarm from both sides, bullets fly everywhere, and your little pixel soldier has to duck, jump, and shoot like their life depends on it (because it does).
The controls are surprisingly tight for a Game Boy shooter, which helps when you’re weaving through walls of enemy fire. There’s something weirdly satisfying about the way your shots explode in these chunky little bursts—like popping bubble wrap if bubble wrap could kill robots. It’s tough, but not unfair, and the pacing keeps you hooked even when you’re replaying the same section for the tenth time.
