After Burst came out for the Game Boy in 1990, published by NCS Corporation. It was one of those puzzle action games that felt right at home on the handheld, something you could pick up between bus stops or during a slow afternoon. The screen was small, the action was contained, but it asked for a surprising amount of focus.
You control a small robot that fires bullets to destroy blocks and enemies. The main goal is to clear a path to the exit on each single screen stage. Your bullets ricochet off surfaces, so you have to plan each shot carefully, sometimes banking them off walls to hit targets you can't see directly. If you destroy the wrong block or leave an enemy alive, you can easily trap yourself and have to restart the stage. The game moves quickly and the stages get complex fast, demanding precision over speed. It feels like solving a physics puzzle with a time limit, where every shot matters and mistakes are immediately obvious.
