Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage came out in 2001 for the Nintendo 64, developed by H2O Entertainment. You play as Alaron, a knight who has been poisoned and must find a cure before time runs out. You explore the world screen by screen, engaging in real time combat that pauses when you attack or use items. Positioning matters; you maneuver your party members to flank enemies or avoid attacks, then choose actions like sword strikes or spells. The game is slow paced and often difficult, with a high encounter rate and some unforgiving mechanics. Playing it feels like wrestling with an ambitious but unpolished system, where patience is rewarded with a surprisingly deep and somber journey.
