Alfred Chicken came out on the Game Boy in 1993, developed by Twilight and published by Mindscape. It was part of that wave of quirky platformers that tried to stand out with a strange sense of humor, a time when you could just be a chicken on an adventure.
You control Alfred, a large chicken on a mission to rescue his girlfriend from the clutches of the Meka-Chickens. The main objective is to navigate through a series of side-scrolling levels, pecking enemies and objects to defeat them or uncover secrets. Signature mechanics include using your beak to peck blocks and enemies, bouncing on special pads to reach high platforms, and solving environmental puzzles that often involve careful timing. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, demanding precise jumps and quick reactions. It feels like a strange, slightly clumsy dance through a world that never takes itself too seriously.
