Alien Soldier came out on the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Treasure, the same team behind Gunstar Heroes. It arrived late in the console's life, a time when developers were really pushing the hardware to its limits, and it shows in the sheer speed and visual chaos on screen.
You control Epsilon-Eagle, a bio-engineered soldier with wings, tasked with stopping a rogue super-soldier across 25 stages that are almost entirely boss encounters. You manage a selection of four weapons at a time, swapping between them to exploit enemy weaknesses, and a teleport dash that's essential for dodging the relentless attacks. Health doesn't come from pickups; instead, you transform into a powerful phoenix when your life is full, letting you tear through enemies for a brief period. The game is brutally fast and demands quick reflexes, forcing you to learn patterns through repetition. It feels like being dropped into a non-stop action cartoon where one mistake can end everything.
