Alisia Dragoon came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed by Game Arts. It was one of those action games that felt a bit different from the usual platformers and beat 'em ups crowding the system at the time, with a fantasy setting and a lead character who didn't rely on a standard weapon.
You control Alisia, a young woman on a quest to defeat an evil sorcerer. Your main attack is a stream of auto-targeting lightning that you fire continuously, though it drains a meter that recharges when not in use. You also have four animal companions that follow you, each with a unique attack, like a fire-breathing dragon or a bird that shoots projectiles. The game progresses through side-scrolling levels filled with monsters, and the challenge comes from managing your lightning gauge while positioning your creatures effectively. It feels chaotic but controlled, a constant push through swarms of enemies with your own small army.
